Dr. Jeremy Rayl has a lifelong passion for animals, but he was a late bloomer when considering veterinary medicine as a career.
In 2011, he began volunteering at the Cleveland Equine Clinic and caught the "veterinary bug." He spent time in a small animal clinic and working at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History with their captive wildlife collection in preparation for graduate studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. As part of a combined program, he completed his Ph.D. in 2018 studying ranavirus infection and immune response in turtles, and then finished his DVM in 2021.
He equally enjoys research and clinical medicine in all species, spending additional clinical rotations practicing zoological companion animal medicine and a month-long preceptorship at Brookfield Zoo. He seeks to do his best for all his patients.
